I have recently fitted a new VHF and am picking up a lot of engine noise over weak transmissions. I have re-routed the cables, replaced the aerial, run a seperate aerial and wandered around the boat with it, but it would seem I am getting RF from the engine. I have been advised to remove the standard plug caps and replace with suppressor caps. Is this likely to cause any problem with the ignition system.
Motor is 1993 V6. Thanks

Andy

It should not cause any problems.

Also try to put a noise filter on the hot lead of the VHF radio.

Available at any Radio Shack.

That will further reduce interference.

Kenny

Thanks Kenny, Will go ahead and get the caps. I have fitted magnetic inductors to all the leads but it really did not make any difference. I think my new VHF is much more sensitive than the old one as this was never a problem before. Will drop a line with teh results. The weather has turned bad here so don't think I will get out for a few days.

Andy
