We bought a 1986 Skeeter with a Merc 150 XR on it and we took it out and noticed that the motor didn’t want to go back up and then once we got it back home she didn’t stay up after a short while we went outside to take a look at the boat and the motor was sitting all the way down even though we originally had it all the way up. Any ideas on why this may be or what we can do to keep this from happening? Thanks - Amber

Your trim pump has an issue. Could be low on trim fluid, or could have a bad seal. If its something you want to try and investigate yourself, we can give you a walk through on how to troubleshoot it. If you get the motor up, most have a metal lever to lock the motor in the up position. That will at least keep it from dropping back down while at home, but won't fix your problem.

What year is the motor? What style PTT do you have? Do you see any fluid leakage on the exterior of the PTT unit?

Most PTT units have reseal kits, however, it is useful to know what is wrong, before going that route. I had to replace the entire PTT unit on my '93, as the casting was worn out.
