My 1990 xr2 oil buzzer will go of intermitenly. Seems to go off under load and high speed. But, it will quit if I lightly back off on the throttle. Should I do away with the injection system and mix myself. If so, should I completely remove the pump and drive or can I just by-pass the pump and leave it where it is.. I tried running with the oil level sensor disconnected and it still buzzed. That only leaves the sensor at the pump, but they are'nt cheap...Any ideas....

It will buzz with those disconnected. The circuit has to be closed to shut it off. Disconnecting it leaves it open. Make sure the oil in that tank is right to the top of the neck. Run the motor and loosen the cap until oil runs out. To be safe, premix the gas until you are sure this was the problem. To clarify, beep beep beep is low oil or dead pump. Beeeeeeep is overheat, bad warning module, or bad beeper.

When I bought the boat, my boss who sold it to me mentioned doing same thing with the tank, but I never did it. Do the upper oil tanks have to be completely full to the top. That sounds like a design flaw, but I am no engineer.. What about connections at the main tank mounted in the boat. Are they apt to air leaks.... Thanks for the input..

There were supply tanks with quick connectors that could leak. Otherwise as long as the hoses are clamped properly (NOT with metal screw clamps), that should be okay. Make sure the caps are tight and the sealing rings are in good shape.

The tank on the motor needs to be completely full to the point of overflowing. No air! The alarm is made to sound early to give you plenty of time to refill. The motor will operate several hours before running out of oil in that tank. The alarm will sound as soon as the oil level drops out of the neck. They designed it that way for long range operators.

The book says the way to prime the engine tank is to make sure the connections to the supply tank are good, then start the engine with the cap of the engine tank loose and run it until it spills a little oil, then tighten the cap.

If the alarm sounds because you ran the supply tank out of oil, you have about 1/2 hour at WOT left in the engine tank. If you don't know why the alarm is sounding, run oil in your gas until you figure it out. If it get's ridiculous, like the plastic drive gear on the crank is stripping, pull the injection off (properly, there are some parts to put back on) and mix your fuel and oil.

If it's a steady beeeeeeep, it's not oil, it's the overtemp. The oil warning goes beep, beep, beep.

Make sure connections and grounds are in good shape. It doesn't take much electrical noise to tick off the oil alarm module.

hope it helps
John
