Hello all,
I am looking at a basscat (still) and I had a chance to put it in the water this weekend. Like I had already known, the impeller or thermastat is going to need replacing because the tell tale never started pissing water and the overheat alarm eventually went off. The other problem I found is that it does not seem to have any power. I put it to WOT and all it did was put the nose in the air, never planed out, and just plain dogged. Talking to the current owner, this boat is supposed to do about 70 mph.

The boat has been sitting for a couple of years. It is a 92 motor and only has about 100 hours on it. If anybody knows what could be causing the bogging in the motor, please let me know. I was thinking that the carbs could have gotten gummed up from sitting. I am planning on taking it to a mechanic asap. If anyone knows of a good place to take it in Metro Detroit area (NW Oakland County) please let me know.

Thanks for the help.

Aaron

Hi Arron well sounds like you may have a flooding condition on a set of your carbs after sitting for a long period , or not firing on all cyl.......this is a v6 i take it??? check for spark running in your driveway with the muffs on and also while it is running remove the attenutor( cover on the front of your carbs) and watch for gas pouring out the front.........would be either one of these problems i beleive, if you are handy mechanically do your self a favour and buy a service manual for your engine clymer sells a good one for about 30 bucks save yourself some money and also get to know your engine ..........hope this helps .......

Thanks for the advise. I am just getting into boating and already getting pretty frustrated. I have not even bought the boat yet. It is a friend of mine's and he said to take it and get it checked out. He has not had it on the water for about 4 years. If I end up buting it, I'll pick up one of those service manuals. I'll really need it at this rate. All I want to do is get on the water and do some fishing.

Thanks again, I'll let you know what happens.
