MERC 1500 GEARBOX

The gearbox seams to have problems. The driveshaft sheared off just above the water pump. I drained some of the oil it was black and smelly. What happened?? help...:^

It's dead Jim.

Cheapest thing to do is get another one on Ebay. Get one from a 1976-1988 80-150hp (excluding the V6's)

Cod knows what happened?.. but it's RARE to see that.

It only had about 200ml of oil left in it. No wonder it s@#t itself! :'(

Yup. It seized and then the engine power sheered off the driveshaft. I should have been making a heck of racket before it went, though.
