Merc 165 motor mount question

Hello, I am about to tear out my old motor mount in my imperial 184. The merc 165 mount with 4 lag screws, I would much rather have through bolt. This would mean quite a redesign of the motor mount. I had already had planned to take the new motor mount all the way to the stringers, for some reason they left a 2 inch gap on this one. I am not sure of the guys of this mount, but will find out when I cut it out. Anyone ever modified motor
Mounts, is this a bad idea?

Here is a picture before I cut the stringers and after. It looks like it was not glassed at all on the inside, the back side was the bulkhead, also not glassed, I suspect the inside is a open unglassed plywood structure.

Ayuh,.... Most ALL boat's motors are mounted with lag bolts...

Thanks for the heads up on the lag bolts, I did not know they were the standard. I like bolts since the lag bolts eventually could loose grip or strip but I guess if I do not need to pull my engine out ever again it is no big deal. Sorry about small pictures, will try to get a better picture posted

As far as the pics go

Up load them to photobucket or a similer sit then cut and paste the image code works much better.

one of the new tricks is to bolt angle iron to the motor mount.....then bolt the isolators on the the angle iron....

but i like the tried and true sit the isolators on a chunk of wood....and lag them in approach

Yea I think I am leaning towards the traditional approach. Right
Now it is very hard to tell what the existing mounts ate made from, the back side is the bulkhead. The front appears to be 3/4 unglassed on the inside. Not sure what the top is but the glass is super thick almost 1/8 thick maybe. It Is hollow inside. I was thinking of using 2x10 on the top and sides. Or possible just glueing a bunch of 2x8s together making a solid block with a drain hole. Solid block may be overkill but I hate te idea that there will be an open hollow area inside the motor mount if I do it the same way it is now.
