MERC 165 OUTDRIVE QUESTION

Hey guys, im new to owning a boat, so heres the problem. Shifting into forward is no problem but clicks from lower unit as it engages. But when i try to get her into reverse it clicks loudly from the lower unit, it will eventually start spinning the prop but clicks all the way to about 1500rpm. i checked the throttle interupt switch and that was fine, any ideas..Thanks
