I had an issue with the shift cable adjustment for reverse. I followed the merc manual and resolved that problem. My question now is: When shifting into drive or reverse I noticed that it takes about 1 1/2 inches of throttle movement to see any movement at the throttle arm on the motor. When I move the throttle all the way forward the carbs are all the way open and all seems well. Is the play in the throttle normal for this year of rig? I would think that once in drive or reverse you would have throttle movement within at least a 1/2 inch of throttle lever movement????? Some enlightment would be great. I also noticed that the start lever does not allow the throttle to go to full throttle is that also normal???? This throttle movement has been this way from the day I bought the boat. I dont have anything to compare to as this is how it was. Thanks for any imput.

Jet,

I concur... Normal...

The reason for the small movement of the throttle with the 'warm up' lever is because 2 strokes have a characteristic of 'run-a-way'... If the revs, with no load on the engine, go too high then the engine will continue to rev higher and higher until it destructs....
