I have a "new" 87 merc 2.2 hp outboard; I'm trying to find a source for cheap/aftermarket (sierra/mallory/etc) headgaskets. All I can find is quicksilver at ~$15 a pop.
I may be replacing them fairly frequently. I got the motor to serve as an emergency kicker for my bowrider. I plan to store it in my ski locker when I'm on long trips, and maybe use it on my rowboat at other times. In order to fit in the ski locker, I need to remove the fuel tank support brackets that extend aft from the cylinder head. Otherwise I may just buy some gasket material to make my own, and keep a genuine HG in the boat in case it becomes a mission critical component...
