Hi, a just got this motor and it will not run in gear over 1700 rpms. It runs up nice to 5k or so in neutral in the water of course. I just replace the fuel diaphram but have not test it yet. I did check for water in the gas separator and did not see any. Swapped filters. Maybe high speed jet clooged? Could it be some kind of stator problem not giving spark under load? I think the batteries were weak. umm oil injection has been disconnected and have not check the compression yet. The diamphram for the fuel pump did not look too blown out or anything. What should one look for in a fuel pump diaphram? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I looked at the pick up on the tank and did not see any check valve. Just a L angle fitting. Can I unscrew that without breaking it off. I hate to have to saw the floor up to get the 90 gallon gas tank out. I can see big problems there lol. A toast to the boat maker who did not put hatch for gas tank removal. Cheers and beer for you.

Really good idea to do a compression check...quick, easy, cheap and tells alot.

Just did the compression check all read between 95 & 105. Put some oil in there and they all came up around 7 points. kind of low I assume unless it's the guage not sealing too well. It read about the same on my johnson a while back. I will put in a table spoon of oil and recheck and try another gauge. I put in the fuel pressure diaphram last night but it runs worse and will not stay running gulp. Stay tuned.

Sounds like you high side of the stator is out.<br />Check with volt meter, red lead to red switch box termial and black to engine ground. Should have 25-50 volts with well charged battery, at least 300 rpm's. Ohmn's test between red stator lead and black stator lead 90-140 ohmns.

Ok just checked with ohms. seems like 117 with engine off switch on. Ran the voltage test and there was none at the red lead with engine idling. Then engine shut down. Now spark seems kind of week. using a 7/16th checker. Just called mobile mechanic. helpppp

well it seems to want to run when starting spray is applied to the carbs. I may have a leak in the fuel line to the tank pick-up in the floor. I hear a strange hissing sound when pumping the ball and noticed the ball did not stay hard.

Update. Just hooked up an auxillary tank to make sure the fuel is getting in there. Seems to run for like 3 minutes then wont start. Would this be a symptom of the stator. And whats the most I should pay for a new one. I hate to start just replaceing parts.
