When I first got my '92 Merc 25 HP Manual put on my 15' Weld-Craft back in '93, I was not able to get my Anode/Trim Tab in a correct position. After many adjustments it was always pulling to one side making it uncomfortable to steer. One day I caught some oyster shell that wacked the thing clear off of the lower unit. Luckily it didn't do too much damage and I was able to patch the gouged-out hole w/ marine- aluminum epoxy putty. It has driven smoother than ever since; obviously no pulling. Is there any harm in just leaving it as is or should I try drilling a new hole and replacing the tab?

When you say trim tab, I assume that you are talking about the tab that sticks down right above the prop.

No you dont have to replace it with a regular tab, they do make a flat one without the tab on it.

I've been running my '85 25hp without the tab for at least 10 years now.

Re: Merc 25 Anode/Trim Tab

Sorry to necro this post, but I am in the same situation.
I ordered a new trim tab but I don't have the nuts/bolts to mount it.

Wouldn't running without the trim tab lead to corrosion?
