I need to replace the prop on my '95 Merc 25 2 stroke. I ordered one from iBoats that is supposed to be the equivalent of the Merc prop that is on there now. When I took off the prop I was surprised that all I needed to do was remove a 3/4" plastic nut. Then behind the prop only a splined "spacer", no other washers or pins or anything. Is this how it is with these motors? No pin or slotted nut? No thrust washer? I hope the Solas prop fits.

Generically speaking:
Sometimes they use a jam nut, otherwise a washer that is splined to the shaft and you bend tabs to retain the nut.

as steelespike mentioned the nut is most likely a self gripping "locking nut", if so you might want to check when its recommended to replace it since its not ment to be used over and over again so it may need to be replaced after its taken off 2 or 3 times

that "spacer" is your thrust washer and keeps the prop from coming into contact with the housing, you need it or a replacement one that fits the new prop. I believe all props that arent "special" will just reuse your old thrust washer

Thank you. The new prop should be here Monday or Tuesday. I'll see how it looks then, and order a new nut in the mean time.
