2001 "parts motor" I just picked up. I fired it up with the rope and it ran good. Then found out it can damage the charging system running it without the batt. There is nothing plugged into the wiring harness connector if this helps [ remote control motor ]. I just hooked up a batt and it's not charging. Does the remote controls have to be plugged in or did I fry something ?

Can someone shed some light or tell me how to trouble shoot? I have a good multi meter.

No the remote harness don't have to be plug in, if you have the battery cables connected to a good battery you should see a rise in voltage at the battery with the engine running, if not remove the 2 yellow wire from the rectifier you should have continuity between them and none to grd. the they test good you probable have a bad rectifier

You can fry the rectifier by running it without the battery. You will find a number of posts here about using a Radio Shack rectifier as a replacement, 3-4 bucks. Don't know if that would work on yours or not.

The PN is 276-1185 for a 25 amp full wave bridge rectifier. All the other FWBR's they have are real low amp capacity.
