Hopefully this isn't too stupid of a question. When setting the timing on my engine recently I couldn't see the timing mark with the light on the #1 wire. I tried #3 and nothing, then #4 and I could see it and set the timing in the correct range. I assumed that I had the firing order backwards, but then figured out that I did have the order right. I checked the rotor position to the timing mark, and at 0 on the timing mark the rotor is pointed at the #1 wire, and the engine is running good. Long story short, I found one post here referring to using the #4 wire to find the timing mark, but no explanation as to whether that indicates a problem or what. Any help would be appreciated.
This is a points ignition on an '85 3.0/140. new rotor, condensor, cap, wires, etc. Set dwell before setting timing.
