Hi all, great site. I have a 87' alpha 1 3L that runs and idles great except when you go from idle to WOT quickly(ie. skiing) It will stumble and sometimes die and you have to restart 3 or 4 times before it'll go. Pain in the arse with someone in the water. Any ideas on where to start?

I took the air filter off and looking down in the carb I see one side has nasty black buildup. I cleaned it out best I could and got some carb cleaner but Im kinda worried about if I spray it in there will it come loose and make it worse?
How hard is carb rebuild on that engine?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

I'd pull that carb and rebuild it, if I were you.

Re: Merc 3.0L Alpha Stumble

Well, i didnt get a chance to test it out this weekend because I think my impeller is shot.
Its overheating quickly and I confirmed that the waterpump is working by opening the screw on top and turning the engine over. Looks like it has good pressure too.
I can manually fill it up and it will stay cool for a few minutes until the water is pumped out.
Question is: How hard is it to pull the lower unit to get to the impeller? Anything I need to watch out for?

Thanks
