The small fuel filter bowl on my 3.0l Mercruiser is rusty inside.
It once had a coating (paint) but this has flaked off meaning that the fuel filter bowl is just bare metal inside which is rusting as theres always traces of water in the fuel. I asked at a Merc dealer and the bowl isnt available separately, only by buying a complete new fuel pump.
Ive been on the lookout for something to replace the bowl, a glass bowl would be ideal but I cant find anything suitable, obviously it needs to be the correct height to be held in place by the clamp, and the correct diameter to form a seal with the fuel pump. Failing this, I thought of coating the insode of the bowl with something to inhibit further corrosion but obviously the substance would have to be impervious to fuel.
Any Ideas?
