The small fuel filter bowl on my 3.0l Mercruiser is rusty inside.

It once had a coating (paint) but this has flaked off meaning that the fuel filter bowl is just bare metal inside which is rusting as theres always traces of water in the fuel. I asked at a Merc dealer and the bowl isnt available separately, only by buying a complete new fuel pump.

Ive been on the lookout for something to replace the bowl, a glass bowl would be ideal but I cant find anything suitable, obviously it needs to be the correct height to be held in place by the clamp, and the correct diameter to form a seal with the fuel pump. Failing this, I thought of coating the insode of the bowl with something to inhibit further corrosion but obviously the substance would have to be impervious to fuel.

Any Ideas?

Ayuh,.. That would be Illegal, not Ideal....

Putting a Water Seperating fuel filter, Ahead of the fuel pump would be Ideal,....
Keeping Water out of the fuel pump will make the rust problem you have Now, a moot point...
