merc 3.0lx better than 3.0l?

Hi folks,

New to the forums and new to boating. The boat i'm looking has a 3.0lx merc? Is this any better/different to the 3.0l? I've read somewhere that there is a power difference. Any advice would be much appreciated.

The LX has a little more HP because of the bigger jets in the carbuerator and the electronics are slightly different.

Pretty sure the 3.0L is 115 HP, and the 3.0LX is 135 HP. Different (Larger dia.) primary jet and power valve, larger throat on the carb (2bbl Mercarb). That's all I know...............


EDIT: Originally 155 HP should have been 115 HP...typo...sorry.

in 1996 the manual says that hp is 115 for 3.0l and the lx is 135 hp
as well the cylinder head is different
