I acquired this motor two years ago. I do not have a huge toys budget. I had it in the shop and paid $571.00 CDN, that's about $17.00 USD to have it tuned and checked out. Compression is good and it runs great on the ear muffs and in the tank. BUT..two years in a row now it has left me without a motor on my major fishing trip. The crazy beggar jams into forward and will NOT come out. Several days later it comes out and starts on first pull. Also the throttle control doesn't move and motor will only idle. If I have throttle handle fully off, I can throttle up like crazy at the carb but not by cable at all. Throttle shuts down when throtle handle is raised, and it will NOT throttle up at carb, although the buterfly will move. I would really like some hints or maybe some dynamite.PS, motor is attached to 1972 15" Vanguard (fiberglass) runabout I dearly love and is short shaft.so newer motors are tough to find. Thanks Gerry gmacfarlane@mts.net

Your engine is a 1964 model.

Sorry, but the only other help I can give you is on the exchange rate. Your $570 CDN is about $410 USD.

Sounds like the problem might be in your controls, rather than in the motor.
