I don't mean to keep starting a bunch of threads but this seemed a different enough question and may be helpful to others.
In doing my research on a vortec head swap, I found some information that states the camshaft base circle dimension for the intake/exhaust is different on pre-92 motors. I am currently running a 89 truck motor and plan to do a vortec head swap. My question is, do I need new lifters or pushrods because of this difference in cam base circle, or did they change the distance in the valve train to compensate? The main reason I ask that question is because I did some research on summit and found that all 87 and up lifters and push rods are the same part number so that makes me think I'm also going to have to put in a newer camshaft. Or maybe I'm missing something...
I just want to make sure I'm not going to need to invest in lifters or pushrods. Has anyone done this swap on a pre 92 motor that can chime in? Thanks
