Re: Merc 40 4.0hp

Thanks Laddies, this is the first time I have had a motor that needs a fuel tank. Is there a special tank and hook ups? do I need a some kind of pump.

Re: Merc 40 4.0hp

there will be a diaphragm fuel pump in the motor. I believe that motor takes the small connector part number 30635T3. With all due respect to Laddies the information at www.oldmercs.com indicates they did not start making the 4hp until 1970 and that serial number does not match with even the 1970-74 models. It does match the 1969 9.8 hp http://www.eastcoastmarineservice.com/196769Merc110.htm#info but that is a completely different motor.

did find where Sierra parts lists a 1969 with that serial number. Who to believe? At any rate the 69 would take the smaller connector.

Re: Merc 40 4.0hp

1964 through 1968 they were known as a 3.9hp motor.

That particular motor is a 1969 4hp (s/n 2498136 through 2771621)

Yes, it takes the smaller 1/4 turn fuel connector. Fuel pump is on the motor itself.

Fuel mixture is 50:1
