Hi tazrig and kylembaca, I see this post is a bit old but it describes the exact problem I have with my 1999 3 cylinder Merc Marine 40 HP engine. When I accelerate slowly the engine accelerates OK but when I give it throttle quickly it stalls. It is much more prone to stalling when there is a load on the boat like a tube or water skier. I have a new gas filter and tried squeezing the bulb to push gas into the carbs just before accelerating fast and it will still stall out. Gas is good and new, plugs are clean. Not sure what could be the issue, advice welcome!
Thanks

sounds like it is on the fuel side of things as apposed to electric. If pumping bulb and new fuel filter don't help then i would next check on the carbs. you may have a sticky (dirty or gunked) float in one or more of them which is preventing full fuel fuel flow when needed. take apart the carbs, clean with carb cleaner and re-assemble (you will need a carb kit to replace gaskets brings etc.). If you don't feel comfortable doing it your self your nearest boatyard can do it for you.
