new to inboards...I have had I/Os and outboards all my life and know the maintenance schedule for the impellers. I don’t know anything about inboards! As I understand, it’s a pulley driven water pump that’s connected to a sea ****, by a hose to the hull of the boat...am I accurate so far?

My question is what what is the maintenance schedule for this or any other water pump I may not know about.

Also, if anyone could provide a link from iBoats to the exact parts for maintenance, that would be great!

My Mercruiser 454 has the belt driven water pump that's on the starboard side of the engine. I just replaced the impeller on mine and it's not a horrible job. I opted to do it in the boat rather than removing the pump so that if I ever have to do it while away from the dock I know I can.

As far as the maintenance interval, I believe it is the same as it would be for a I/O since it's the exact same type of pump... Rubber impeller in a plastic housing.

no different than maintaining the pump on a VP or Mercruiser Bravo.

Every 2 to 3 years

Those which have belt driven water pumps

The belt driven pump is fairly common on I/O boats too. I change mine every 2 years.

My pal has twin 350 Cruisers. He keeps at least one spare impeller and gasket in his cabin. His temp gauge tells him when it's time, or when he didn't get his strainer gasket tightened. Not a terribly difficult R&R job.

It's a "rubber" impeller in a bronze housing. You should NEVER wait until temperature issues occur to change it . The pump fails from several causes..too much flexing of the "blades", dirty water causing excessive wear, heat from running dry. You don't want to damage the housing..$$$$$
