I am replacing the engine in my boat for a rebuilt 470 and today had to halt the old engine removal due to what seems like an unpleasant discovery pertaining to the exhaust collectors.
I removed the frankenstein exhaust pipe that was made from an oil pipe of the appropriate diameter and mated to some contraption at the lower section. There are no flappers and no where to put one.
I take it the lower is not original ? How could this be ?
In any case I now need to fix it.
I have the later style aluminium exhaust manifold and later riser fitted to the older 1977 engine.
Do I need the exhaust collectors from the early or later engine or doesnt it matter ?
If anyone has any idea what is there now I'd love to hear it.
