Merc 470 WEEP HOLE LEAK, BUT NEW CAM SEALS ?

Hello , I had a leak from the front weep hole.There are no grooves on the cam shaft replaced the seal but now leaking even more. I'm almost positive I put the seal in right.The lip part goes in ? If the seal is good what would cause it to leak from there?
Anyone?

WHEN installing the seals your supposed to put grease on the seals. If not you will burn the new seals up. Also when installing them they have to be installed perfectly if you bend it they will fail. mine did leak for 20 minutes but then it stopped.

You probably know this but there are two seals in the cover.the inner one is the one that causes the most trouble though.

Apply 5 psi in the cooling system tube prior to reassembly. It will save you lots of time.

I had to speedy sleeve my 470 cam to fix but first time I was loosing air (Heard from cover) and had to move sleeve further into cover.

Well I tookl the cover off again there is a black ring around the cam where the seals sit.How much of a groove does it take for the blow by ? I dont feel a groove but there is a black ring there?

very little i also used a speedy sleve this last winter works great.... you may have to do the same.............good luck
