merc 5,0 mpi gives a double buzzer sound and stops

Hi guys, i wanna halp a buddy of mine who yust startet with his 305 Bayliner into vication and gave me a call. Some miles of travelling he got a double buzzer sound from one of his merc engines (duoprop) the doulbe buzzer sound comes again one minute later and so on.This happend for a while.
After stopping the boat to check the engine went off.

The engine will start after some minutes of waiting time, but it gets off again after some seconds.

What is the 2 times buzzersound telling us????

Please help him out.

Assuming you have a 555 ECM, and assuming this alarm is actually 2 beeps every minute, then there are almost 2 dozen reasons it could happen.
Time to get it hooked up to a diagnostic tool and find out what is causeing it to sound.
Do you have a Merc SN for your engine? It will be necessary for any kind of specific information.

Merc SN ? Whats that?

He called a service shop. They will come out with a diagnosis tool. I hope they will find the one out of the dozent possibilities.

SN = Serial Number.
On a tag just above the starter in the back of the engine.

Found my 2 years old still open thread...

Don, sorry for not having answered.
It was one of his 5.0 MPI. The double buzzer sound stands-as you said- for a douzend of possibilities. Therefore this sound indication does not realy help... The diagnostic tool is a pain in the a.. its just telling the same dozend of possibilities the service manual is showing.

My buddy was lucky having 2 engines build in and switching one component after the other between the motors - testing and waiting until the problem is switching as well. It was the air flow (mass) controller (however this thing is called in english)

The specialist who came out to help said that this air flow mass thing is his top seller component when the double sound accures...

Hope this helps anyone finding his problem fast.

Did he call it an "IAC" Idle Air Control?

This is a pretty common item to fail while sounding the horn.

I went through the service manual and looked how its called in english. You are right it was the IAC needle valve.
