ok guys so this is my first boat with an outboard its a 58 starcraft with a 50hp merc. So issues when i got it i saw it run guy had a hard time getting it started because it sat for a yr he said had to fire it with carb cleaner but saw it run. So now im trying to fire it i prime it choke it nothing wont fire spray it with carb or starting fluid it fires, runs off the carb cleaner then dies. So i know motorcycles not 2 strokes but bikes so this tells me its not getting fuel to the carbs. first thing do boat engines have a fuel pump? so i follow the line back to the side of the engine where it meets the other fuel line take that deal off looks to be a screen check it its clean. Then it goes to this little canister deal by the lower carb unthread the bolt in top prime it got fuel, pull the drain plug on the upper carb and fuel. Lower carb what a mess cant get to anything on it. Yet it fires on carb cleaner and when it starts to die give it a shot and runs then dies so i know its not getting fuel whats the deal guys.
