Merc 500 50hp water from between powerhead and Drive Shaft Housing

Replaced the water pump and got the lower unit reattached. In addition to the stream out of the tell tale, there's water coming out between the drivehsaft housing and the power head on the stern end of the engine. Is that normal on these engines or did I not get the watertube in correctly?

When I put it together, I put the watertube into the driveshaft housing before raising the lower unit up. How is the bend or jog in the watertube supposed to go?
