merc 500 elec. prob. from a short

I made a mistake and connected my 1970 merc 500 to the merc connector of my merc 1400. That resulted in a shorted out switchbox. I replaced the switch box and re-tested to find the engine has good spark and starts right up. The engine now has a bad missfire and pops and clicks. It seemed to be a fouled plug so i replaced the plugs ans re-tested several more times. the missing continued and the plugs dont seem to be wet much at all. My thinking is that somthing else in the electrical system got damaged, pos. stator of ignition driver? any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! The motor ran great last time i hooked it up, and i am using good fuel. all cylinders show good spark through a spark tester so im a little confused. thanks
