I have a 1964 Merc 60 6hp engine. I have rebuilt the carb in recent years, replaced water pump, etc. The engine has run great for years, but just recently has started dying after running for a brief period. It is dying because of lack of fuel. Motor will stay running if you pump the primer bulb, but will die if you do not. The fuel pump is good, as I have inspected it and replaced it just to be sure it wasn't the problem. This causes me to assume the check valve is the problem. Would a bad check valve cause the engine to not be able to stay running? If so, where could I find one, if they are still available, and if they are not available, could I adapt a different/ newer fuel pump with available parts to the carb? Thanks in advance for your replies. I hate to part out the engine and love using it and keeping it in working order, but this is getting harder and harder to do as parts become more scarce..
