I got up at 3:00 AM to go duck hunting Friday, took my boat out of it's somewhat heated shop, drove about 60 miles, dropped it in the water (which had about 3/4" of ice all over it) let the motor sit in the water for a couple of minutes, and then fired it up.

We were slowly breaking ice and moving away from the launch when I noticed my motor wasn't "peeing". I always check for this, as I'm a motor moron, and have always been told to make sure it's "peeing". Well, it wasn't. I gave it about 2 minutes and shut it off. I took a small wire and checked to see if anything was plugged back there, no luck. This went on for some time; I'd start it, let it run for a minute or two thinking there might be ice in there, but it just wouldn't pee.

It did look like it was exhausting down by the prop, and the motor wasn't getting hot? But I put it back on the trailer, drove about 70 miles to a shop, waited for them to open, and they checked it out and called me on my cell 30 minutes later and said it was fine, must have been ice????

My question to them was will it happen again and what should I do? They said it's ONLY an indicator hole and as long as the motor is not heating up, or the warning buzzer not going off, to go ahead and run it??? They said I could run it all day without worrying about the "indicator hole" as long as it was exhausting down by the prop???

MY QUESTIONS:

ANY way to prevent the ice from causing this in the first place, as I have a LOT of cold weather hunting still ahead.

AND, does their explanation and directions sound right??

As always,

THANKS!
