merc 650 power&idle problem

1972 650 thunderbolt ran great all day 20km out and 18km back, running about 3/4 wo then it just went down to about 1/4 wo on its own. stopped and it stalled started and stalled. with Idle at about 1500 it runs, but rough tried wide open a few times but only get about 3500 rpm max. checked comp all is ok

also should mention that my fuel consumption seems to have been very bad today

looked at plugs there was some metal flaking on the plug tried to start motor today no start just backfire
