Merc 650 seal question?

"67-"69 650 prop shaft seal,are they hard to change?I found one of these FS,but the owner told me it started leaking.I realy want a 65HP motor,and this one runs good!

If it's a fresh water motor they are quite easy remove the carrier nut and carrier and use a punch drive the seals out and reinstall, the inner seal the lip goes in and the outer the lip goes out.

If it's a freash water motor they are quite easy remove the carrier nut and carrier and use a punch drive the seals out and reinstall, the inner seal the lip goes in and the outer the lip goes out.

He ran it in salt water once in a while,but rinsed in EVERY time.Should i avoid it since it's been in the salt?

Just replaced them in my "68' 650 and took it a step further and also replaced the needle bearing in the carrier and the large o-ring,it was pretty simple straight forward stuff.
