Merc 650 water coming out vent above cav plate

I picked up a 1967 Mec 650 for a couple of hundred bucks. We put a new impeller and pump housing in it as a matter of course. When running it on muffs there is water comming out those slots just above the cavitation plate.
Is that normal? Water is coming out of the teltale so the tube must be lined up. I have never noticed this on my other merc.

Did I screw something up or is this nothing to worry about.

As long as you have water at the telltale your alright the majority of the water goes out the exhaust and that what your seeing
