Hello.

The motor is 1968 650ss.

I've been having trouble with it since last season. The motor idles approx 600 RPM in neutral on the water. When I engage drive, the motor cuts out unless I tap the choke button when it sputters. The motor runs excellent at wot.

Here is what I did so far..

replaced fuel line, primer bulb, and tank.

replaced fuel pumps, changed in-line fuel filter.

cleaned the carb screen filters.

replaced several questionable fuel lines going to the fuel pumps and carbs.

adjusted the idle speed in a "tank" in my driveway while in neutral (no muffs).

attempted to adjust the idle screws while on the water in low fwd gear.

ran seafoam through fuel system.

did compression test, all cyl are between 115-120 psi.

verified spark on all cylinders.

I am thinking of doing a carb rebuild. I have yet to get a service manual. Any suggestions as to which manual to get? Seloc or Mercury?

I also notice when I squeeze the primer bulb hard, gas squirts out of an area near the upper screen filter housing. It's not coming from the gasket of the screen housing, but next to it. I can't see the area very well unless I disassemble the whole front area of the motor. Is this normal?

I appreciate your help!

- Jesse
