Hello, maybe one of you can help.

One of the legs of the plastic venturi broke off. I looked up the part number (#64247) and apparently this item is discontinued. Some of the schematics that I have seen show another type of venturi (#69764). Here is a link to a parts schematic - http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/467/40.cfm The two parts look different.

Does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable?

If not, is there anyone who knows where I can get the discontinued part #64247?

If not, what would be the effects of running the motor without the part?

Thanks for any info,
Travis

I belive they are as to 64247 was a tillison part and mercury switched to a walbro carb that was a knock off the the original and the part whats available is the walbro part.

Laddies,

Thanks for the info, I will go ahead and get the walbro part to see if it works. I will post the outcome when I get it.

Thanks,

Re: Merc 75 SN 3489466 - carb Venturi

I was told by a 76 year old local outboard mechanic that the two pieces are indeed interchangeable. My (newly acquired) motor was dying at mid and high rpm's and i found that with one wing missing, the venturi is able to turn almost completely sideways, pivoting on the main nozzle. So I'm not sure if it will run well without the venturi, because I never tried it, but I know for a fact it will not run well with the venturi in place with just one wing. What I did was to use a soldering iron to weld/melt a small piece of gas stable plastic on where the wing was missing. I trimmed it up with a razor blade and put it all back together and I am in business ! Motor screams now ! My weld was nice and strong, and really, there is no real force on this part aside from gas vapor and air. How these wings get broken off in the first place is beyond me, but must be from someone poking around roughly in there with something. I do notice that the wings on the newer venturi 69764 are thicker than the old 64247 venturi. Maybe they just get brittle over time and come apart. (But the other wing seemed perfectly strong ?) When looking at the diagram of the two venturi's (part 21a and part 21b) http://www.boats.net/parts/search/M...1692/CARBURETOR ASSEMBLY, COMPLETE/parts.html there is an optical illusion that the hole in the center is smaller on the 69764, but it is not. The outside diameter is smaller, but that must not make a difference.
