I don't know how to do this, and only power trim is covered in the book I bought.

There are a series of holes, and a pin. There is also what looks like a hooked device to lock the trim in place, connected to a rod which goes down to the drive end. Motor bounced up out of water in reverse, so I've not got it right.

The reverse lock rod rides on a cam on the shift shaft, on the top of the lower unit. When you shift into reverse, the cam moves around and the raised part causes the reverse rod to move upwards, which (through some other stuff) engages the lock. If you drop the lower unit, you can operate this mechanism manually for testing.

thanks!

I continue to be amazed and impressed by the engineering that has gone into this motor!
