Merc 850 oil mix / max revs

I have an Australian Merc 850 about 1977 model. I've been running it 50:1 but have seens in a few other posts talk about the older engines going 40:1, would this be worth while. Also what would be my max WOT rev range? Thanks..

Every one I have read say 50:1. Might want to bump your question.
