Does anyone know what the troll lever on the motor mount is for? I am not to knowledgeable when it comes to Outboard motors. Also I need a new prop for it, anyone know the right size and where I can get one (cheapest as this motor only gets used 4 or 5 times a year).

I have an earlier model 9.8 which doesn't have the troll lever. But with my experience with that motor, it has more thrust than needed for trolling. I would always drag 1-2 buckets to slow the troll...so to speak! What the lever should do is bring the position of the outboard up to direct the thrust toward the surface more thus, slow the troll!

Thanks for the quick answer on the troll question. I went to check it out and what it actually does is, when pushed all the way up, it allows the motor to lock in a upward position by itself.

I have also found the original part number for the the prop and it is 48-87572A10. Its an 8 X 8 prop. Now if I could just get a replacement fairly cheap I be all set.

The lever releses the reverse lock, no?

The troll lever releases a tilt mechanism that holds the engine in the tilted position, which will reduce the engine thrust and slow the boat down. Why the did not call it tilt is beyond me, the engine does not need any help trolling slow on most boats.

Is there any of the Solas brand props that will work for this 9.8 Merc?

The only listings I can find are Mercury # 48-47922A10 or it crosses to a Michigan # 032021

The original part number for the prop is 48-87572A10

Ok, your link is for the US built engine by the serial number and mine was for the Canadian built engine but both links call for the original part number that I gave you not the number you came back with?
