I'm just wondering what you guys (and girls) that have the 90 hp fourstroke efi mercs have to say about them, pros, cons, etc. My new boat I ordered comes with that motor and am wondering what to expect performance and economy wise

Re: merc 90 hp fourstroke efi questions

Mercury is the #1 seller of outboards (I think) probably the biggest dealer network and the newer 4 stroke EFI's are state of the art.

There are other outboards like Yamama, Tohatsu, Nissan, Suzuki etc and some of the brands are really the same motor under a different name depending on the motor's size.

With any of today's newer outboards you really can't go wrong you just wind up paying for the name.

Etecs are a Direct Injection 2 strokes, but of a cleaner lower emission and lower maintenance technology than the older 2 strokes. They are really gaining in popularity, but they are also expensive.

Merc also makes the Optimax which is a 2 stroke direct injection.

I think you will be thrilled with your new Merc. Of course you could always step up to a Mercury Verado if you really want to splurge and get a super outboard!

You can Google a ton of reviews and comparisons on O/B's. Also watch the videos that Merc has on Mercurymarine.com

If your new O/B didn't come with an extended warranty as a bonus . . . get one. I paid extra to extend out to 5 years. Do the proper annual maintenance and it will run for many many years.
