Merc 90HP Leaks Fuel When Trimmed Up

I have a 2004 Merc 90HP 2-Stroke carburetor outboard that seems to leak maybe a half ounce to an ounce of fuel/oil after running the engine and then trimming the engine up.

I've talked to a couple of people and they say this is normal for a carb outboard but it bothers me even that a small amount of gas and water can leak back into the lake.

Someone also said to add a fuel shut-off near the primer bulb and shut the fuel off and let the engine run out of fuel before trimming it up.

The engine starts great and runs great, no problems.

Any suggestions or assurances would be great. Thanks!

i also have a 90 (2003) and it does the same, i have learned to deal with it. i would not remove the fuel line as this might cause oil problems. you might have to prime the oil system. this is a pain!! i just put a rag under the motor when not in use..
