Hi All!! Just a question what does this gasket do? It seems to seal up the bearing retainer nut that has notches in it? I installed it when doing a bellows replacement wondering what it actually seals. If it mates up to a surface with notches in it what is the point? Inquiring minds want to know..

I installed it around the bearing housing not in the bell housing like the manual says. Is this correct?

The notched nut slips inside and the ring around the nut seals against it. The O-ring has to be installed in the bellhousing before the drive slides on, otherwise it seals nothing.

If you have already put it in the water, then you now have water in the bellows, water in the gimbal bearing, ujoints and probably leaking into the drive. Where you placed the seal will not contact anything on the bottom of the housing where the shift mechanism is.

I have always used bellows adhesive to hold that ring in place. Just to make sure it doesn't get bumped and moved out of place.

I did not put it in the water luckily. I took off the drive and installed another gasket correctly with the cement. When I took it apart the gasket was actually in 2 pieces. Thanks for the help.
