Im looking at buying a 02 kenner with a merc 200efi . I took it for a test drive and it accelerated fine , got on top of water and then I let up on the throttle as the boat slowed to idle speed an alarm would beep once. I repeated this 3 times and turned boat back over to the owner who couldn't explain what the alarm meant. any Mercury guys out there that might shed some light on this for me. Thanks

Re: merc alarm

Most engins have alarms for over temp and low oil. On some engines the horn sounds continuously for both. For others with more advanced electronics the OT is solid and the low oil is regularly intermittent. Most systems beep the alarm on initial key on to tell you that the sensor system is working.

Only thing I can think of is that there is a chafed wire in the control box that you hit with the shift/throttle lever when doing as you said. You might run an experiment and slowly throttle down and see of there is a spot on the control position that causes the beep. If so then I would be looking for a chafed wire in the control box.

Re: merc alarm

Water in fuel separator as it has a sensor in it or slightly low oil level in the onboard oil tank will cause a single beep....
