Merc Alpha 1 which anodes

Alpha 1 Gen 2, great lakes, no shorepower on boat, but many nearby. I am replacing the anodes they did their job but should they be the expensive Mg ones or is Zn fine? What's the difference? Boat in water 3-5 mo's a year/pulled peroidically

Mg is for fresh water,Zn is for salt water.

If you use zinc in freshwater aluminum will be the anode.

Thank you very much for the info. yeah, I brush the good ones down with a wire brush before launch and coat the screws with digrease to make the best connection.
