Merc alpha id

I have this upper unit laying around, alpha 1 gen1?, and the little stamp in the corner. Does that show the gear ratio 1:65 and r for right hand? what size engine is this suited for? Thanks

Yes that is the gear ratio and it is a right hand rotation.

1.65R just means 1.65Ratio, has nothing to do with rotation. The lower is the only thing that changes rotation.
It's an R, MR, or Alpha I by looking at the decal and shape and what looks like a flat cap. Serial number will be needed for that ID.
The chart below shows where they were used.
