3.0L Mercruiser 2 barrel carb. Boat not run in a while. Mechanical fuel pump. Rebuilt carb and when put in it was overflowing. Adjusted float no more overflow. Now it drips from the arm in the middle of the venturi(Forgot what they are called.)on the right one but not the left. During rebuild I recall the kit had washers that went around the 2 jets at the bottom of the bowl. Put them in but did not remember if they were there to begin with. Would this cause the one to drip?
Thanks,
E.L. Williams

Re: Merc carb situation

Sounds like the float is still too high, or not working at all. The jet washers wouldn't do this.

I was leaning that way. Anyone know what the float should be set at. Lost my manual this last hurricane season. Haven't got a replacement yet.

I think it's 3/8 with a solid needle, and 9/16 with a spring loaded needle.Measure from the gasket to the dot on the toe of the float while holding the top of the carb upside down.

Re: Merc carb situation

Update:
Rebuilt carb per manual, originally brought a spring loaded needle vs. the solid that came with the kit. Carb float height set float has no fuel intrusion. Still dripping from the venturi tubes. Will the height of the base to intake gasket make a diffrence? Kit brought a paper thin one vs. the original one that was about a quarter inch thick. Will the solid needle work better? When I disconnect the fuel line and run it on the residual fuel in the bowl does not drip at all. I am stumped! Any help is appreciated.

Hey rebel,

Maybe we can figure this one out. It seems like it is getting too much fuel no matter what I do. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I had the same thing, same carb, a few months ago. Put in the solid needle and it worked perfectly.

Dave

Re: Merc carb situation

Some floats will absorb fuel and become heavy
leaving the needle and seat unsealed. It will
allow fuel to run into the ventures and cause
the very problem you describe. Did you change
the float? If its not the float then you may still
have a needle and seat problem.

You're Supposed to use the Exact Parts that you Removed from the Carb.,....
You Can't pick,+ choose Which pieces to change,...If a washer or gasket IS in the Carb.,... Replace It,... Re: Merc carb situation

hello all. just a little side info on ( mercarb) 2 barrel carburetors. they are a very poor copy of a rochester 2 barrel, very poor. mercuy marine has issued over a dozen pages of service bullitins on these units. flooding idle is a very comon problem. low or rough idle cause the 3.0 engines to shake and will cause needle and seat not to shut off fuel at idle. make sure idle speed is correct, also check ignition timing as this can cause rough idle also. i will check bulitins, i belive 3.0 engines reuire spring loaded needle, at least this month. engine serial number would be great as bulitins are grouped by that number.
