i have a mid 80's clasic fifty 45 hp
so far i have rebuilt the carbs, lower unit and rewired boat

the problem is in nutrel it will rev as high as i want and in gear out of water but as soon as it is put into gear in the water pushing boat it will not rev past what seems like 2k rpm but in nutrell it will when i first rebuilt all that was needed it worked great for an hour then just lost its power i still have great compression in all four cylinders and great spark clean gas filters and no problem with gas flow

please help:(:(:(:(

Since you rebuilt carbs, did you check carb linkages to make sure carbs are fully opening? Is bottom carb opening, if not you may have lost coupling (#19)If its the year model with fuel pumps on the side of carbs, it could beone of the flapper check valves is stuck or sucked into passageway.

My guess is you have missed something in the carbs, gunk or float level??????

You would not be the first, nor the last to rebuild the carbs 2 or 3 times before you strike gold.

Did you clean/replace the fuel filter? Fuel lines and tank clean? Primer bulb firm?
