Have an 84 50 HP merc had a high speed miss found a broke magnet on a coil. Ordered a replacement coil and it has a ground plate on front - post when my old one had a wire that was on back of coil that u just put between the coil and power head plate so my question is do I just hook up the ground cable coming from the switch box and am good to go? Thanks Justin

Re: merc coil ground?

I would assume so. Pics would help. The circuit has to have a return path of some kind back to battery- which most of the time consists of a lug on the engine block somewhere, or several, engine block being the common denominator. Some components use a component mounting screw to a metal plate which is attached to the block, or use a wire under a mounting screw which screws into a plate or a wire under a screw that goes off to a ground terminal on the block somewhere.
