I am helping a friend out doing some basic repairs on a Monterey boat with a 4.3 V-6 mercruiser engine with an alpha outdrive. I noticed while working on some bilge pump wiring that the port exhaust manifold is leaking. I need to investigate a little further before I call it a crack, but it does appear to be leaking from the outside just above one of the mounting bolts that go in to the head. If it is cracked should I replace it with a aluminum manifold or stick with a direct replacement? I know there are many aftermarket manifolds on the market. Should I use a merc brand or go with an aftermarket? If so is there one that is higher quality? Are there brands I should avoid?

Re: Merc exhaust manifolds

Ayuh,... A year or few ago,...
I posted a thread about having to resurface the gasket surfaces to Flatten them on a set of GLMs...
Search it up.... I probably won't buy another set....

Check ebasicpower.com, they sell the Bar Osco brand and have great prices.
They have another new brand not GLM and i have had zero problems with them,They include all new gaskets and bolts.
Get a price and i bet Iboats will match it...;)
