I have a late 60s Mercury 100Hp... I think the head gasket is blown. There is fuel leaking at some places when the motor is run. I can also see small bubbles at some places. The engine also has trouble idling! Could this be the source? Final question... Is it necesary to remove the powerhead from the rest of the engine to remove the head gasket? or could it be done with the engine assembled? Zane

I don't think your motor has heads or head gaskets.

Re: Merc Head-Gasket

All the older inline Mercs had the head cast as part of the cylinder block. If you're getting fuel leakage around the head, it's likely the result of a cross-threaded spark plug, leaky heli-coils, plug threads in need of a heli-coil, or loose plugs. In a worst case it could mean a cracked block...<br />- Scott
