Hi

I've got a question concerning my 3.0 lx and the lower oil type.

Merc has 2 types , normal and hign performance oil.

One cost some much more than the other.

Which would you use and when?

or is there a product in the aftermarket that is just as good?

thanks :)

Re: merc lower oil usage

After reading many different articles, I use the cheapest thing I can find that has the SAE & API ratings. I run pretty hard sometimes & then it seems like she just sits. I trailer mine every where though. If yours sits in the water all the time little more cash may be worth it.
Most of these companies have their oils blended by the same refinery. I have also used AMS oils there are expensive though.
Butt everyone has an opinon about oil it seems like.

Re: merc lower oil usage

Mercruiser suggests using only the high performance in their out-drives (they also only ship drives with high performance lube in them). I have seen people put the regular stuff in the drive, and in just a few trips it comes back all burned and black (the stuff even smells burned).

The green/blue high performance is much better, doesn't burn up, and is (as has been said by mercury) able to still reliably lubricate the drive even with 25% water contamination.

Scott..
